Hivestack! Let’s get moving!
The Stackies team invites you to join us for a week-long charitable event starting next Wednesday, September 15th and ending on Wednesday, September 22nd. Walk or run with a colleague at any time or as many times as you’d like throughout the week. We’re asking you to track your activity through a mobile running app and submit the distance you covered to our #teamchallenges Slack channel.
Our goal as a company is to collectively run or walk 100 km (62 mi). If we achieve this, the Stackies will donate $1,500 CAD to Girls Who Code, an international organization that aims to improve gender diversity in underrepresented computer science fields and support the next generation of female Hivestack developers! For every additional kilometer beyond our 100 km goal, Hivestack will donate $2.5 CAD per kilometer.
But wait! There’s more… If you walk or run with a colleague, and submit a selfie together along with a screenshot of your recorded activity, we will apply a 3X “mile-multiplier” to the distance you covered.
Here’s how the campaign works…
While you can run or walk alone, we’d like to encourage Hivestackers to safely participate together where possible. Please adhere to all local COVID-19 safety protocols and rules for your country or province. The week-long event allows all colleagues to participate, no matter the time zone! For every kilometer or mile you run together, we will apply a 3X “mile-multiplier”, earning you and your colleague triple the distance you’ve both completed towards our 100 km goal, the coolest multiplier we’ve heard of since the Impression Multiplier!
Track your activity on your mobile device through a running app. Make sure you download the app ahead of time. We recommend the Nike Run Club , Map My Run, or Runtastic. When you’ve completed an activity, take a screenshot of the results and a selfie if you’re participating with a colleague.
Next, submit your screenshot and selfie to the #teamchallenges Slack channel so we can tally up our collective achievements. To do this, you may need to have the Slack mobile application downloaded to your device or use your work laptop.
At the end of Wednesday, September 22nd the Stackies team will total up the number of kilometers/miles we’ve covered, applying our 3X mile-multiplier to those who have participated with a colleague and announce our total donation to Girls Who Code. Keep your eyes peeled for updates on our progress throughout the event.
Get your running shoes ready and poke a colleague to schedule a run or walk starting September 15th! Look out for a follow-up message announcing the start of our charity run campaign next Wednesday.
